3D X-ray computed Tomography

The need to see and understand what is happening at the micro, and nano scales spawned the development of Scanning & Transmission Electron Microscopes to enable high resolution imaging of material surfaces.

Xradia whose background is in the development of optics for synchrotron sources have developed a “novel” multiscale X-ray Computed Tomography technique to overcome some of the short comings of SEM & TEM techniques. These limitations include viewing of mainly surface images, and long plus onerous sample preparation.

The microXCT and nonoXCT systems with high contrast imaging and resolutions from micron to 50nm is enabling the internal structure of advanced materials such as bio-materials, polymers, composites, ceramics and other low Z materials to be viewed.
